WSOP promotion idea

Hi guys, we have had some requests / ideas for running a WSOP promotion for CMU members.

Titan Lucky has put together one idea. Is this something everyone would be interested in?

Home Game To WSOP

Using PokerStars “Home Game” the “Home Game To WSOP” poker league will run over a 15 week period, with 3 WSOP Main Event Seats up for grabs. Entry is open to a maximum of 50 participants.

Entry
Cost of Entry : $750

Total Prize Fund $37,500
All entry fees must be paid up-front so guarantees can be met. These funds can be segregated as CMU Dollars. A private FREEROLL tournament will then be held for 15 consecutive Sundays at 16.00CET (10.00ET).

Total Prize pool WSOP: $30,000

Total Weekly Prize Pool: $7,500 ($500×15)

Entry Costs
Of each $750 entry, $600 goes into the WSOP Main Event Pool and $150 goes into the weekly prize pool.

For each of the 15 events, points will be awarded as follows.

1st 50

The winner is deemed the highest cumulative score from the 15 tournaments. If a player is unable to play for any reason their buy is none refundable and points will be awarded according to their finishing positions when they blind out.
Prizes – 3 WSOP Main Event Seats

The league winner will receive a $10k WSOP MAIN EVENT SEAT

2nd and 3rd will play a HU NLH game for a $10k WSOP MAIN EVENT SEAT

The loser and 4th to 11th will play a 9 man NLH Sit and Go for a $10k WSOP MAIN EVENT SEAT

Rules
There is no cash alternative.
The seats are offered on the terms of a 75.5/24.5% split in favour of the player – All participants in the league will have a 0.5% share in each of the winners of seats to the WSOP MAIN EVENT
If there is a tie, the winner will be deemed the player who achieved the highest finishing position in event 11.

Additionally each event will offer the following cash prize pool and all payments will be made in CMU$

1st $200

2nd $125

3rd $75

4th $50

5th $30

6th $20
Format
3K starting stack 15 minute levels

Games 1-3 NLH

Game 4 PLO

Games 5-7 NLH

Game 8 PLO

Games 9-11 NLH

Game 12 PLO

Games 13-15 NLH

I would be in. One suggestion would be to keep it all nlh, the main event isn’t plo.

instead of 750. u should do in my opinion do 800 because the 10,000 you will give to the player will not include travel cost + hotel. if u take 800 from each of the 50 player u can give out 11,000 which should cover most of the expenses. if im giving 25% out to other people i would prefer not paying 1k in flight and hotel

gl finding 50 people to put up $750. i can count 25 tops.

I fail to see why you use the word “promotion” but it is quite a cool idea.
The time is terrible, 15 weeks is too long (i would say 7 sundays, 2 tournies each), I dont get the plo part (although that would be good for me), but I love the way prizes are distributed.
Not saying I am in, but worth considering if the above points are tweaked.

so its basically u running a home game satty to wsop w/ nothing free added? “promo” isnt the word for this. its a satty with profit sharing. i dont think this is the type of stuff AQUA was speaking of in recent posts about running cmu promotions. negative me.

Idea was to use this to bring more players to CMU if they can win WSOP seats. There are 15 weekly cash prizes in addition to the seats and everyone gets a small piece of the winners in WSOP. 750$ is comparable to a 700$ satty and anyone can play and sell 50% at say 1.3 and play fornot much more than the cost of the Sunday Million. The idea of down to 11th playing off is to keepslow starters interested. This approach has worked very well for the Hendon Mob and hopefuly that CMU may add something “promo”

i’ll be in if its an aussie friendly time. although 15 weeks is a bit long, would prefer shorter, maybe 8 weeks

The original version had 2 wsop packages and an ept pkg, the prob with the ept pkg is that the buy ins vary, so though it better to put as many players into the wsop main event as possible.
Some possible changes could be:
16 tournaments over 8 sundays, 15.00 and 17.00.
We tried to work hotel and travel costs into the pkgs so a quick re jig of figures and that can be sorted.
I agree with sticking to just NLH, seems to be the consensus so far.
Looking at 50 players to be able to guarantee 3 seats but that may be changed to a seat per every so many players and then cash for extras similar to stars.
The post is to see how many will be interested in the idea.

good idea, but have some of the same tweaks that others have mentioned:

a) no PLO. this makes no sense.
b) as huss stated, possibly incorporate $11k packages rather than $10k (even though i believe the costs are far greater than $1k to play in the WSOP, especially as you go deeper and are playing multiple days and the later you schedule your trip).
c) instead of counting points for all 15 tournaments, possibly your best 10 to 12 scores (this would also eliminate the 4 thru 11th playoff that i don’t like). this also enables person to miss one or two days during the 15 week competition (which is bound to happen).
d) give packages to 1st, 2nd and 3rd. if there is a tie for 3rd and 4th, have them play a best of 5 heads up match. making 2nd and 3rd play a heads up match where one of the guys walks away with nothing and then a 4th thru 11th person gets a seat is unfair.
e) don’t pay so many people in the sngs. you could get rid of payouts for 5th and 6th and this money could go towards paying more than a $10k package. I think simply paying top 3 would be enough (who cares about getting $20 or $30 anyways?).

like dwayne’s idea of running 16 tournaments over 8 weeks (two each sunday). if you ran 16, i would count the top 12 or 14 scores. this way you get to miss one to two sundays without punishment towards the WSOP package (you’d still lose your money to the weekly tournament payouts).

and i can get one or two extra guys who would probably be interested in this that are non-CMU. also, nothing stops anyone from selling the $750 as an event and entering that way as well if $750 is too much (would possibly do that myself).

RW d) is wrong – you need to have as many people interested in the league rankings as possible – those who do not have shot are prone to anything from careless play (that what individual tourney payouts are for) to outright chipdumping (to those who are in contention for the grand prize
on a side note, loser of the hu plays the sng as well so it is still much better to come 3rd behind durrr than 4th

yes, like the idea of the loser of HU getting a shot at the sng as well.

but would still like it to see a best of 3 or even best of 5 heads up match for the second seat. seems like a big deal to just let one heads up match determine it after 16 tournaments of play. but that’s my opinion.

i ll try to give my opinion. sorry but i speak french…

i like the idea but

1- no PLO, ME is in HE
2- why not not 3 MTT/day? so, it could be finish in 5 weeks
3- i live in Europe (Belgium). think i m not the only one here. flight is still more than 1k$. i think a 12 or 13k$ pkg is better for the winner. even if he got less than 75.5% on his result in ME
4- i don t find correct that the 11th could win a seat if he win the last SNG…
5- chipdumping is still possible. best way imo is to take best 10 or 12. so most players can play till the end for the pkg.

Most of the players that will be involved in this usually play the sunday majors and numerous other tournaments, I think that trying to play 3 tournaments on top of that just to get it done quick is pushing it.
For a $12-$13k pkg a $1k buy in will be needed.
The idea of a final sng for the 3rd seat is to keep everyone in with a chance to the very end.
So the new schedule is to play 15 tournaments in 1 night and winner takes all?

Hm, i cant see the “promo” advantage here, just from the sight of money.
Ok, its less variance to play 15 MTTs, but if i see it from costside:

Here i pay 750$ to get a Seat, and then i have 75 % on my winnings. And i have to play against the best players here!!

On the other side, i can play a normal satty for 700$ (with some weak players qualified from a 3$ subsat) and get a 13.000$ Package! and 100 % of my winnings!
Just for the 50 $ i save in buy in, i can buy a share on a WSOP Player.

Yes, Promo is the wrong word to currently use, I believe that if enough interest is shown then CMU will be running this with something added to the pool.
If you win 4 of the 15/16 then your actually paid to play and keep 75% :)
